Friends Make All the Difference

Just two years ago, an abandoned gas station stood in the center of Washington. A few people in town had a vision of something better: a gathering place in the middle of  Washington that would invite neighbors and friends to relax, learn, play, share and celebrate all that our community has to offer.

Thanks to the generosity of those first supporters and dozens more like you, that blighted gas station became the Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens, a public park in the heart of Washington Depot.  And that early vision has become a reality, as the park has drawn the community back to the town center to enjoy the best of Washington—together.

Have you come to the park? Maybe you’ve been to a Saturday farmers market, or to an outdoor summer movie night. Maybe you’ve taken in an art exhibit, attended a lecture, or enjoyed a concert in the renovated garage, or maybe you’ve joined yoga or tai chi in the park. Maybe you or your children attended the Shepaug coffee house, or caught the impressive work of local students at the Shepaug art show. Maybe you came in from the cold or toasted some marshmallows at the park during Holiday in the Depot. Maybe you sat quietly in the park on a sunny afternoon, enjoying the garden, Mark Mennin’s “Currents” sculpture, or your own thoughts.

Did you like what you saw? Do you want to see more?  The Washington Park Foundation,  a nonprofit organization that manages the park, is committed to maintaining the space for all neighbors to enjoy, and to bringing programs and activities that offer something for everyone. But we can’t do it without your help.

While those generous early donors enabled us to purchase the land and renovate the garage, what happens at the park depends on community support.

Will you join your neighbors and become a Friend of the Park? Your 2017 tax-deductible gift today will allow us to begin planning now the programs and events you will enjoy in 2018.

Become a Friend of the Park by making your gift today by visiting our website and clicking on the “Donate To The Park” link.  And please take the opportunity to let us know what you’d like to see at the park!

The Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens is a gathering place that welcomes everyone to the center of Washington. Please join us.

See you at the park,
